Positioning

  • Dorsal recumbency
  • Extend forelimbs cranially
  • Support under the pelvic limbs with pads or sandbags
  • Ensure no rotation
  • Centre in midline midway over thorax
  • Collimate to include thoracic inlet to diaphragm
  • Expose on full inspiration
  • Ensure L/R marker in primary beam.
  •  

What to look for

  • Sternum and spine should be superimposed
  • Good inspiration is vital.

Top tips

  • If using a cradle try to ensure this is not under the thorax.
